Letters from the President Archive
Hello everyone,
On behalf of the Harp Society I would like to extend a very warm welcome to the students who registered for scholarship auditions and became our newest members. We also welcome back past members.
The Harp Society exists thanks to you and for you. It is not a small thing to encourage young students and to provide them with publicity and a stage to perform on as well as the chance to hear and learn from professional and international talent.
The Scholarship Auditions will take place this coming Saturday, May the 9th, at 2pm at the RCM in the new theatre. All are welcome to come and listen to very talented young people. It is free!
Best wishes for success,
Vera Stern,
President
Letter from the President
To All our Harpist Friends, a heartfelt thanks for the support you have shown in attending Judy Loman's Celebration Concert!
Those who came were treated to a fabulous concert, as well as an exceptional art show by members of Haadd. Guests had a chance to win great deals at the silent auction table including gift certificates from the Hair Bar, Lyon & Healy and Remenyi's, as well as portraits of Salzedo and Grandjany and much more. Not least was the rich buffet of cheeses and dips, cakes and fruits, punch and herbal teas. A very special thank you goes to the volunteers: Mona Lancaster, Linda Marvin, Ai, Robin and Alex, Nurielle Stern, Moira Nelson and all the students-your work was invaluable and your contribution to the success was beyond expectations!
The audience was also treated to some exceptional playing that showed off the wide range of harpistic expressions with (literally) whistles and bells. At the end all the musicians who donated their playing that evening were presented with bouquets of orchids. Judy's students presented her with a Book of Memories. Haadd's president Beth-Komito Gottlieb presented Judy with a painting by one of their exceptional artists. The Harp Society concluded the evening by giving Judy a symbolic gift of an engraved tuning key and a letter announcing the inauguration of the Judy Loman Award for exceptional talent in performance and composition for the harp. The letter was signed by the president Vera Stern, the vice-president Liliana Dimitrievic, the scholarship committee chair person Janice Lindskoog, and the treasurer Jane Millar.
Finally our gratitude goes to Haadd for being such great partners and to the generous musicians themselves and especially to Judy Loman who made it all happen.
Money raised from the ticket sales and silent auction will be shared between the Harp Society and Haadd. My final thanks go to Liliana Dimitrievic, Janice Lindskoog, and Jane Millar who have helped in organizing this out-of-the-ordinary concert.
Cheers to all and best wishes from president
Vera Stern
To the Dean of the Royal Conservatory of Music, James Anagnoson
Dear Sir,
The Toronto Chapter of the American Harp Society gratefully acknowledges your generosity in allowing the use of the Ettore Mazzoleni Hall of the RCM for our concert on Friday, Oct. 24th.
In helping us sponsor this concert you have helped the Harp Society in its mandate to promote the Harp, its musical literature and its education. Some members of the Canadian Four Seasons Harp Quartet were once students at the prestigious institution we know and admire, the Royal Conservatory of Music.
The harpists have grown and developed their careers with different orchestras in Canada and by coming together to form the highly polished, multi facetted Four Seasons Harp Quartet, they gave us a rare glimpse into our Canadian talent. The warm and comfortable ambiance of the Hall was an ideal venue for the harp.
This was all possible thanks to you.
Sincerely,
Vera Stern, President
